India’s New Labour Code framework consolidates 29 central labour laws into four comprehensive Codes, aiming to simplify compliance and improve transparency.

These include: –
1. The Code on Wages
2. Industrial Relations Code
3. Social Security Code, and Occupational Safety
4. Health and Working Conditions Code.

A uniform definition of wages has been introduced, significantly impacting payroll structuring, PF, ESI, bonus, and gratuity calculations. The Codes expand social security coverage to gig workers, platform workers, and unorganised sectors. Employers benefit from single registration, common returns, and digitised compliance mechanisms, reducing procedural complexity. Clear thresholds for layoffs, retrenchment, and standing orders bring predictability to industrial relations. Stronger focus has been placed on workplace safety, health standards, and working conditions. At the same time, penalties for non-compliance have increased, making structured compliance monitoring and automation critical for businesses.
