India’s New Labour Code framework consolidates 29 central labour laws into four comprehensive labour codes to simplify statutory compliance, improve workforce protection and modernize labour law administration across industries.
The Government of India introduced four labour codes to streamline labour law compliance processes and establish a unified legal structure for employers, HR teams and employees.
A standard definition of wages has been introduced, directly impacting payroll structures, minimum wages, provident fund calculations, gratuity, bonus payments and employee benefits compliance.
The labour codes expand social security coverage for gig workers, platform workers and unorganised sectors while simplifying employer compliance through single registrations, common returns and digital compliance systems.
The framework also strengthens workplace safety regulations, employee welfare standards and industrial relations procedures. Businesses are now required to maintain stronger compliance monitoring systems to avoid legal penalties and operational risks.
